I was reading this on Mark Batterson's blog today about the real story of St. Patrick.
Leave to us to make this day all about alcohol and self indulgence...

I am super excited about the Refuel Conference happening in a little over a month in Fort Myers, Fl.
This is a conference for Student Pastors, workers, and volunteers. You don't want to miss this conference. I hope to see you there!
Church was....truthful.
I am a worship pastor, and I grasped the idea of a song yesterday like I never have before.
We were singing Jesus Culture's, Your love is everything. There is a line that says, "You keep no record of my sin, You don't remember all my shame."
In our second service, Pastor Clint gave an illustration about the adulteress woman that poured out her expensive perfume on Jesus' feet. She was overwhelmed that the Son of God would forgive her sins. She was full of shame and was an outcast, but was forgiven and set free. We, too, are free from shame. We just sat in that moment. It was a Spirit filled time of response to God's goodness. I love those times when we as a church body can experience the richness of God's blessings.

So yesterday, I stepped out into the lobby for a second. A lady caught me and said very kind words about our services last week. I was encouraged as she went on and on about how the Lord was in our midst and how the people worshipped. Then the conversation went something like this:
Lady: I wasn't here but I heard the music was wonderful.
Me: It was a very powerful service.
Lady: Well I asked my friends what made it so good and they said that you finally played all of the music that we liked. So just keep doing that and our services will continue to be good.
Me: (After I picked my jaw up off the floor) Ma'am, It wasn't the music that made the service so good.
Lady: What?!
Me: It wasn't the songs that made the service so good. The people responded to the Lord. That's what made it "good".
Lady: (looking as if I just ran her dog over with a lawnmower) Well, whatever...
Her logic was obviously wrong. I hope we have not fallen so far that we only respond to God when our preferences are met. Because it truly isn't about us. It's really all about Jesus. It's about giving Him the praise and glory. It's about responding to His greatness, not our preferences.
Other than that minor setback, church was great. God's word was taught, He received all the worship and praise. God was honored.
Last week at Convergence, David Platt said that we as churches have come to worship ourselves. He said that we don't come to worship the Lord, but we worship things and songs and ideas that really are about us, which in turn means that we worship ourselves. We learned yesterday that in order to stay away from these temptations, we should pray. Pray that we will not make worship about us. Pray that Jesus will be lifted up in our churches. Pray that we will not enter into temptation. Luke 22:39-46.

One of the good things about Facebook and Twitter and such things is that you get to connect with the world. Literally! I really enjoy praying for people and I use social networking to do it. I usually spend some time on Wednesday mornings praying for people that I don't know and may never meet. But God knows. He is intimately involved with the details of it all.
I have been praying for a kid named Alex Ross for about a month now. I have never met him. I have never spoken to him. But I have seen a community of believers in Jacksonville, Fl. lift him in prayer, support his family, and make his story known.
I just started to read his blog today. He was shot in the head and given 3 hours to live. GOD HAD OTHER PLANS! He is well on the road to recovery! There are several videos that you can watch to get a better idea of this story and how God is the orchestrator of all things. Please pray for Alex. Pray for his parents. Pray for his siblings. Pray for their church. Wanna go deeper?...pray for the guy that shot him.
God allows us to share in His blessings. One of them is seeing something come to pass that you prayed for in someone else's life. It's awesome when you know the person, it's as amazing even when you don't. Jesus healed a servant because of the Centurion's faith! Matthew 8:5-13...

I am full. Full of God's word. Full of excitement. Full of urgency.
Convergence is well underway and it has been incredible. I had the privilege of leading worship all day today. I have heard some great men of God break the word. Don't miss tomorrow if you are in the Charlotte area. Several other pastors will be teaching. I can't wait.
The worship through song was so rich and thick. People were crying out to God. Hearts were being changed. I love times like these in our church. Today was my first time leading at our main campus. I hope to do it again soon.
Right now, I'm very tired. Long day today and another long one tomorrow.

Last night, there was a buzz in the air. It felt like we were eagerly awaiting the opportunity to spend corporate time with God. It just felt right. We worshiped, the word was preached, God was honored.
I then had the opportunity to go upstairs and lead our students in worship. I LOVE THOSE TIMES!! I don't know them all quite yet but I want to and will soon. So we led a lot of songs for a long time last night. I love my job!
Next on the schedule is the Convergence Conference. We have several of the countries to communicators and Pastors coming here for 3 days. I can't wait. This will be my first experience with the NC Baptist Convention. Good times ahead. Hope to see you there.
